Welcome to the Georgia Metros Website. In 2009, we are entering our 26th Year of providing mentoring and coaching to young female athletes, as we use basketball to teach them important Life Lessons and to help them earn College Basketball Scholarships. In the Georgia Metros Family, our Coaches are dedicated not only to the development of our young women as talented basketball players, but, more importantly, their growth into responsible, caring adults, who will earn their college degrees and seek to make the world a better place by giving back to their communities, the same way the Metros Family has supported and mentored them. We emphasize values such as teamwork, hard work, empathy, leadership, responsibility, humility, being coachable, and respect for all races, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.
We currently have OVER 40 METROS PLAYERS who, as young women student/athletes, are now earning a free college education (mainly at NCAA Division I colleges) because they worked hard and earned a College Basketball Scholarship while playing with the Georgia Metros. This amounts to approximately a million dollars in educational benefits for our Metros Players in College this year alone (including their tuition, books, room and board)! We have helped over 350 young women earn college scholarships in our 25 year history, and we had TWO FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS in the 2008 WNBA Draft. We cureently have over 20 Metros Players playing professionally overseas. And, in our current ranks of Seniors, our Metros Players have already signed with these colleges: Auburn University; University of Virginia; Vanderbilt University (two Metros signed at Vandy for 2009); Virginia Tech University; and our other Seniors are considering: Miami, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Florida, Boston College, Pitt, and Providence, among others. |
